Your quaint English phrases do make me chuckle, until I accidentally use one around people who don’t watch as much British telly as I do, then I need to try to figure out exactly what it means so I can explain it to them. By then, it’s like trying to explain a joke to someone who doesn’t get it, and it’s not funny anymore!

How I keep track? Labels on my dashboard and making sure the first thing I do after publishing a lens is finding the lensographies that it fits & putting it on there

This article on about.com’s Urban Legends site may lend some insight as to how these email warnings originate. I always research these sort of emails (usually on about.com, though snopes & hoax-slayer.com are also usually pretty informative) before passing them along, and I usually end up sending a reply email to whoever sent it to me with links to the debunking articles instead of passing them along.

As with most “good” lies, scams & hoaxes, there’s usually just enough truth to make it believable to the average person.

It drives me nuts when people just pass these things along without finding out the facts for themselves!

AJ Sick is right. It drives me stark ravin’ mad to receive horrible hoax emails and I am much like you – I head in to find out if it’s true or scam/hoax. My fave place is snopes.com, they have a huge library of current and past scams.

Thanks for that clarification Dan about that site – I did not realise. I do agree that these bottles are bad for the environment and perhaps I’ll make that the subject of another blog – I just hated the way it has been used to perpetrate this hoax
